Web-hosting company Switch and Data Facilities Co (SDXC.O) swung to a fourth-quarter loss, hurt in part by higher operating expenses, but forecast 2009 revenue above market expectations.
For 2009, the company expects total revenue of $207 million and $210 million. Analysts were expecting sales of $206.5 million for the quarter.
The company, which competes with Rackspace Hosting Inc (RAX.N) and InterNAP Network Services Corp (INAP.O), posted a net loss of $8.5 million, or 25 cents a share, compared with a profit of $2.5 million, or 7 cents a share, a year ago.
Revenue rose 22 percent to $45.8 million. Operating expenses jumped 30 percent to $$43.9 million.
Analysts were expecting the company to break even, before items, on revenue of $45.9 million, according to Reuters Estimates.
The company expects capital expenditure of $75 million for 2009.
